Basic Bag Care and Maintenance
Bags are a fashion investment like clothes and shoes. Unlike clothes however, you can’t just throw your designer bags in a washing machine and expect it to look new. Like shoes, they need special care and cleaning procedures. There are bag cleaning services available in Singapore, but what if you want to do it yourself?
This is a guide on what you need to do before you begin.
Bag Styles and Materials
Bag styles refer to the item’s function and look. Some of the most common are backpacks, clutches, convertible bags, pouches, satchels, shoulder bags and tote bags. A good cleaning procedure involves maintaining the shape of the bag.
Some bags are made of different types of material and accessories. Consider these before cleaning. Some materials might expand or the colors could fade if cleaning is not done properly. The straps, buckles and zippers could also rust. The straps might crack and flake. Unfortunately not all bags come with a label of the materials used so if you’re not sure of the item, ask the shop.
Care for Leather Bags
There are many types of leather. You can usually find out what the type is by asking for details when you purchase the bag. Leather also has different types of finishes that create color and texture. Imitation leather may be made of vinyl, polyurethane, PVC or plastic.
To clean leather bags, wipe the surface using a cleaner made for leather. It should not be washed and soaked in water as it could damage the material. Some brands recommend a specific cleaner for their bags. You can ask the store for details about the cleaning formula. However, the best way to prevent damage and to keep leather bags clean is to rub leather conditioner at least once a month. Let it dry for a few minutes before using. You can also use a spray protectant to keep it from the harsh weather.
Care for Fabrics and Synthetics
Some bags are made of canvas, corduroy, velvet, linen, satin, paperboard, other skins and more.
Some materials can be washed and soaked in water and soap like canvas. Backpacks can be machine washed too but always check the label. Make sure to empty all the pockets and remove metals and straps before you start cleaning. Then place it in a laundry bag to protect it from damage while in the washing machine. Then rinse and let it dry naturally. Don’t place it in direct sunlight.
Storing Your Bags Properly
Your leather bags usually come with their own storage bags or boxes with silica gel. Remove all the contents before storing. To keep its original shape, stuff the bag with tissue or paper. Store them vertically so they don’t get damaged by other bags on top of the stack. Don’t hang them by their straps because it can distort or damage them.
Keep them in good condition by using them. It’s important to air them out so that molds don’t develop.

5 Signs That You’re Wearing the Wrong Bra Size
Brassieres are undeniably one of the most important things in a woman’s closet. With the right fit, it can make your body look more flattering, improve your posture, and even boost your confidence. However, statistics show that 80 percent of women are wearing the wrong bra size. Fortunately, there are signs that you can check for to determine if you’re wearing the wrong bra size yourself.
- The Straps Fall Down Constantly
When this happens, it could be that you just need to tighten them a bit. Since you’ve washed them over and over it’s possible that the straps have stretched out, so adjust them first and see how it fits. If it still slips down your shoulders after you’ve made adjustments, it just means that they’re no longer giving you the support that they should.
- The Underwire Pokes Into Your Breast
We all know that our breasts is made up of a mass of delicate tissues, and with that in mind, the last thing you’d want to do is to irritate that part of your body – especially using a metal wire. Your bra’s underwire should sit right on your ribs and align with the middle of your underarm. With this, your breasts will fit completely inside the cups, thus letting your brassiere do its job.
- The Straps Dig Into Your Shoulders
Most of the support provided by your bra should come from the band and not the straps. A common mistake most women make is purchasing a bra that’s too wide across, then tightening its straps to make up for the support issue of the undergarment. Remember that wearing straps that are too tight often causes a myriad of problems, and repeatedly wearing it might leave permanent marks on your shoulders.
- The Bra Gaps Between Your Breasts
One of the tell-tale that you’re wearing the wrong brassiere size is front-gapping. If the centre gap in the band lifts off your skin, then the cups are too small. The solutions to this is either you move up a cup size or find another bra style with a better fit. You’ll know that you got the right fit if the centre part sits right against your skin.
- The Band Isn’t Parallel to the Ground
The band of your bra should be a straight line across your back, parallel to the ground. If the band is curving up, then you likely pulled the straps too tight. It could also mean that your band is too big, and you need to move to a smaller bra size. Determining which of these caused the problem should be easy enough.
Wearing the right bra size is crucial for getting the support that your breasts need. So make sure that you keep these signs in mind to avoid purchasing the wrong size the next time you shop for your undergarments.

7 Habits to Ruining Your Skin
There are habits that we regularly do that are ruining the health of our skin. The obvious ones are smoking, going to bed with makeup still on and eating unhealthy foods. Aside for these, there are other habits we do that may seem harmless but are unknowingly encouraging poor skin health.
There are times when we feel frustrated because no matter what we do, acne and other blemishes still grow on our face. TO help you with this plight, here are seven habits you absolutely need to break to give way to better skin.
- You’re sleeping on the wrong kind of pillowcase.
Cotton pillowcases are common and cheaper but sleeping on them causes skin breakouts. Like any other object that comes in contact with our face, your pillowcase is full of oil and dirt. Sleeping on these causes acne mechanica, a form of acne that is caused by materials that touch our face. When a pillowcase isn’t washed weekly, the buildup of oil and dirt in it clogs the pores and results to blemishes.
Make sure to regularly change your bed sheets and wash the soiled ones. You can also switch to using silk pillowcases because its antimicrobial properties keep the bacteria away.
- You are reusing your wet washcloth.
A wet environment is an excellent breeding ground for bacteria. Therefore, constantly reusing your wet washcloth is bad for the skin. Buy several pieces of washcloths that you can interchangeably use. After using a wet washcloth, instantly launder it and hang to dry.
- You are using a body exfoliant on your face.
Exfoliating products specially engineered for the face contains soft and gentle beads. Using a body exfoliating product, which has stronger exfoliants, on the delicate skin of your face causes irritation and extreme dryness. Over-exfoliating is counterproductive because it results to more breakouts.
- You are constantly doing all-nighters.
Sleep is essential for skin regeneration. Seven to eight hours of undisturbed sleep give way to skin repair and cell growth. Constantly pulling all-nighters can hurt your skin, making it dull and lifeless. No amount of beauty products can help your skin like a good night’s rest can.
- You are using old and unwashed makeup brushes.
Used makeup brushes pick up oil, makeup and dead skin cells. Using these on your face ruins the skin. To avoid this, clean your makeup brushes using a gentle dishwashing soap once a week in order to disinfect it.
- You are always touching your face when you’re at the gym.
Keep in mind that gym equipment is used by a number of sweaty individuals so it is full of bacteria. When you regularly touch your face when working out in the gym, these germs are transferred to the skin, resulting in the formation of acne. To guarantee that you do not touch your face, tie your hair in a ponytail to keep it away from your face. Also, keep a towel nearby so that you’ll stop wiping sweat with your hands.
- You are not eating enough fruits and veggies.
Having an arsenal of beauty products is great but isn’t taking care of the skin from the inside important too? Eat a good amount of fruits and vegetables regularly, and skip the unhealthy snacks. Your skin will thank you in no time.
